Senior

The senior course at Pro Corda provides an opportunity to work on
advanced chamber music repertoire, with coaches who have lived
with, breathed and performed this music on the international stage.
The course accepts either pre-formed groups, or more commonly individuals. Each player is normally placed in three or four groups and are painstakingly matched on previous performances or submitted video, which enables groups to make the most of the learning experience, developing their chamber music and rehearsal skills through a wide range of repertoire.

Previous examples of works studied include Schoenberg’s 2nd String Quartet, Beethoven’s Grosse Fugue, Janacek, Shostakovich and Bartók Quartets.

All Pro Corda courses have excellent pastoral care, and this comes partly from the relatively small numbers on the course due to the emphasis on chamber music and partly from the expertise and experience of the pastoral staff. All staff are chosen for their experience and empathy with this age group, and students and parents alike will find us warm and welcoming.

The director of the course is Rafael Todes – a member of the CBSO under Sir Simon Rattle and a founder member of the Schidlof String Quartet for seven years, performing and broadcasting widely throughout Europe and the States, including six sold-out Wigmore Hall recitals. Rafael teaches at the Junior Royal Academy, and Westminster School
