Junior Course

Course Intro

The Junior Course welcomes talented string players, pianists and some wind players from ages 12-14 years. It builds on all the elements that have been introduced on the Prep and Primary Course but brings in new projects to challenge this age group. More advanced chamber music repertoire will be studied, alongside daily orchestral sessions, instrumental masterclasses, and workshops on improving individual practice so that each student begins to take more responsibility for their personal musical goals.

The Junior Course is led by Annabel Thwaite who believes in inspiring musicians from a holistic approach. Daily Yoga and Mindfulness sessions will be integrated into the timetable so that each child increases their confidence, reduces performance anxiety and reaches their optimum musical well-being.

You can see examples of projects the course includes below.

  • Daily Chamber music coaching in at least two chamber works
  • Daily musicianship
  • Instrumental masterclasses
  • Dalcroze Eurhythmics
  • Workshops on “How to practise”
  • Introduction to Jazz
  • Introduction to Indian music
  • Film Composition
  • Improvisation
  • Song-writing techniques

All Pro Corda courses have excellent pastoral care, and this comes partly from the relatively small numbers on the course due to the emphasis on chamber music and partly from the expertise and experience of the pastoral staff. All staff are chosen for their experience and empathy with this age group, and students and parents alike will find us warm and welcoming.

Course Director: Annabel Thwaite

Annabel is also our Core Course Co-ordinator at Pro Corda. As a multi-award winner she is recognised as one of the most versatile and charismatic pianists playing today.
