Violin & Viola Course
Course Intro
Pro Corda’s specialist violin & viola course is aimed at young string players who intend to study, or are studying, at a music conservatoire, junior department or a specialist music school and those aspiring to enter the profession.
The course runs in February Half Term and is one of the smaller instrumental courses we offer.

This violin & viola course provides an excellent opportunity to gain new insights into playing, all within a supportive environment. The tutors are encouraging and kind, as well as being world-class performers. The course is designed to be flexible to develop what the individual requires. Whether you are preparing for auditions, want to develop technique, become a more confident performer, gain more experience playing with a pianist or other musicians, our team will focus on helping you to develop. Students are encouraged to bring their own repertoire (with piano parts where relevant) that they wish to study on the course. Duet or ensemble music can also be chosen if requested.

All Pro Corda courses have excellent pastoral care, and this comes partly from the relatively small numbers on the course due to the emphasis on chamber music and partly from the expertise and experience of the pastoral staff. All staff are chosen for their experience and empathy with this age group, and students and parents alike will find us warm and welcoming.

Course Director: Dominic Moore
The director of the course is Dominic Moore who first came to Pro Corda as a student 40 years ago. His violin teacher was one of the founders, Pamela Spofforth. He later won scholarships to Winchester College and the Royal College of Music studying the violin with Itzhak Rashkovsky, and also the piano as a joint first study with Peter Element.
Dominic plays the violin, viola and piano, and directs his own chamber ensemble ‘St George’s Chamber Orchestra’, based in Beckenham. He also leads Buckinghamshire based Alina Orchestra, is a violinist in the orchestra for the West End production of Phantom of the Opera, and teaches violin and viola at New Hall School, Chelmsford.
Course Location: Leiston Abbey
Unlike the larger chamber series, we can still run the Violin Course at the stunning Leiston Abbey in Suffolk, even during site development using bedrooms on part of the site. All teaching facilities will be available, as always.
In the heart of the Suffolk countryside with easy access to the Heritage Coast, participants on the course will be able to enjoy a vast array of social and fun activities – organised to complement and warmly welcome every individual.
