Welcome to Pro Corda's Young Carers & Siblings Performing Arts Programme!

Pro Corda is proud to be running a new Performing Arts programme for young carers and siblings of children with additional needs and disabilities. The programme is available to any young carer or sibling aged 10-18 who lives in Suffolk.

Pro Corda’s Performing Arts programme is committed to helping young carers find their voices, share experiences and to develop confidence through the arts.

What's it all about?

Participants come to Leiston Abbey on Tuesday evenings for an after school club throughout the school term. They will have exclusive access to the Pro Corda professional recording studio and create their very own Young Carers podcast series, which will be broadcast via Pro Corda’s popular podcast channel “Live at the Abbey”. Each individual will embark on a bespoke journey tailored to their individual interests and skills whilst also collaborating and creating within small groups.

The programme will include podcast production, including 1:1 sessions with seasoned radio broadcasters plus creative instrumental and vocal tuition with Andrew Quartermain and Laura Feeney. There will also be opportunities for work experience placements at Pro Corda’s community concert series.

Tell me more!

The best way to get a sense of what the students are up to is to listen to it in action! Here are some examples of the production work done in the Pro Corda studios as the Young Carers & Siblings work together on composition, drama and radio interview skills. These are the very first few podcast episodes of Young Carers’ Radio!

In this episode of Young Carers Radio we play our own spooky Halloween music and recite a series of nightmares!

In this episode of Young Carers Radio we chat to Cameron, Liam and Sydney about musical playlists, aspirations for the future and hear them improvising live at the piano.

In this episode of Young Carers Radio we discuss the importance of taking time to relax and play for you our very own meditation track to unwind to.

We had the MOST FUN creating our most recent podcast episode of Young Carers Radio. Check out our incredible drama improvisation skills and see if you can guess the mystery objects we weaved into our scenes.
