Pro Corda North

Taking place in the North of England in August each year, Pro Corda North offers talented young string players and pianists, from grade 5 upwards, experience in at least two chamber music groups and musicianship as well as inspiring music projects which may include Dalcroze Eurhythmics, composition, dynamic rehearsal techniques and even art. All chamber groups are organised according to standard and age. Access is through an informal audition.

Spanning eight days, the course takes place at Ampleforth Abbey and includes:

  • Daily chamber music sessions - to prepare and perform works by a range of composers.
  • Creative musicianship - through Dalcroze Eurhythmics and improvisation leading to composition.
  • Performance opportunities - including house concerts and end of course presentation.

All Pro Corda courses have excellent pastoral care, and this comes partly from the relatively small numbers on the course due to the emphasis on chamber music and partly from the expertise and experience of the pastoral staff. All staff are chosen for their experience and empathy with this age group, and students and parents alike will find us warm and welcoming.

The directors of the course are Alison Lansdown and Penny Stirling.
