Children's Piano Course
Course Intro
Directed by former CEO and concert pianist Andrew Quartermain, the Pro Corda Children’s Piano course, within our supporting instrumental series, is designed to offer an intensive development for all young pianists (in advanced and junior classes depending on level/ experience.) It also supplements Pro Corda’s chamber music programme by offering a crucial boost to those young pianists wanting to make chamber music part of their artistic lives.

Young pianists so often get left out of the chamber music experience in their early development, and those who do find the chamber music path can often get held back by the age old conundrum of the classical and romantic piano chamber repertoire – for every one note string or wind players have, the pianist usually has 10!
So we address this head on with the annual Pro Corda Children’s Piano course. Specially designed improvisation sessions to boost sight reading, creative duet sessions to boost ensemble communication and awareness, chamber repertoire sessions, and Dalcroze Eurythmics – again to help with spontaneity of performance, confidence of reading and learning scores, and to develop the most natural of musicianships.
Alongside these are of course masterclass sessions with internationally famous pianists and teachers.

Pro Corda’s Children’s Piano has all the usual unique aspects of a Pro Corda course: a dedicated pastoral team, lots of fun activities on a stunning site during free time, and plenty of performing opportunities. Not to mention some early morning Yoga sessions!

All Pro Corda courses have excellent pastoral care, and this comes partly from the relatively small numbers on the course due to the emphasis on chamber music and partly from the expertise and experience of the pastoral staff. All staff are chosen for their experience and empathy with this age group, and students and parents alike will find us warm and welcoming.

Course Director: Andrew Quartermain
Andrew is CEO and Artistic Director of Pro Corda. He has a busy international concert schedule as both soloist and chamber musician performing with instrumentalists and singers from Europe and beyond.
Course Location: Leiston Abbey
Unlike the larger chamber series, we can still run the Violin Course at the stunning Leiston Abbey in Suffolk, even during site development using bedrooms on part of the site. All teaching facilities will be available, as always.
In the heart of the Suffolk countryside with easy access to the Heritage Coast, participants on the course will be able to enjoy a vast array of social and fun activities – organised to complement and warmly welcome every individual.
