Activities Unlimited
In partnership with Scope, Pro Corda has established a special programme for the most disadvantaged young people in our immediate community of Suffolk. Workshop days & two day residential courses take place at Leiston Abbey. The curriculum is based on our "Create Together" performing arts programme and allows those most disadvantaged to access artistic and performing opportunities.

BBC Children in Need
Supported by BBC Children in Need, Pro Corda has established a special programme for the most disadvantaged young people. These two day residential courses take place at Leiston Abbey & Shrubberies School, Gloucestershire. Pro Corda's National Chamber Music Festival For Schools
Pro Corda's annual Chamber Music Festival for Schools is a celebration of all that is great about ensemble playing: its central role in the development of young musicians, the wonderful chamber music repertoire, the endless possibilities for creative ensemble work and crucially the thousands of young people themselves up and down the country who get such a huge amount out of engaging with ensemble playing.

Song Unite
Song Unite is a new and exciting company offering children and young people including those with disabilities, learning difficulties and special educational needs an inclusive and creative, quality SONG WRITING and optional ‘mobile’ recording studio experience introducing, inspiring and bringing together children and young people of ALL abilities to work together, collaborate, create, write, record and produce their own 'original' song.

Pro Corda is delighted to work with Song Unite on a number of projects.

Leiston Abbey
Leiston Abbey is a beautiful historic site dating from 1363, set in the Suffolk countryside on the heritage coast. Nearby are the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold, and the RSPB Bird Reserve at Minsmere is just a short distance away.

High Tide
HighTide Festival Theatre was founded in 2007 to discover, produce and champion emerging playwrights.  Under Artistic Director Steven Atkinson, the annual HighTide Festival in rural Suffolk has become one of the UK's leading theatre events. HighTide's productions then transfer nationally and internationally  in partnerships that have included: the Bush Theatre (2008), National Theatre (2009), Old Vic Theatre (2010), Ambassador Theatre Group / West End (2011), to the Edinburgh Festival (2008/10/11) and internationally to the Australian National Play Festival (2010).

In partnership with Pro Corda, HighTide is pleased to offer all Concert Passport scheme holders 50% off tickets to HighTide Festival 2012.

HighTide is committed to developing and inspiring the next generation of artists and audiences. Working with Pro Corda within the region creates significant opportunities to achieve this.
courses at procorda

COURSES

Courses are divided into age groups.  The standard for entry varies depending on the course applied for.  Senior students would generally be expected to have reached a standard at least equivalent to Grade VIII distinction.  Although it is not a requirement that applicants pass Associated Board examinations, they are expected to show musical potential and a good technical standard.  Where appropriate Pro Corda may approach applicants' instrumental teachers.

The courses (other than Special Educational Needs) are held during the school, college and university holidays and therefore do not conflict with normal schooling. Students are expected to attend regularly in order that they may receive full benefit from the experience offered.

Syllabus

The syllabus is a carefully planned course of progressive difficulty. Students who enter at an early age will, when they have completed the training, have studied in detail examples from the works of the finest classical, romantic and modern composers. They will have built up a considerable repertoire and a wider knowledge of musical style than can be achieved in the usual educational curriculum. Evidence of this can be seen in those students who subsequently take up successful musical careers. Many reach prominent positions in orchestras and small ensembles or as soloists in Britain and abroad.

Pro Corda is not intended as a substitute for the students' normal instrumental training but as a valuable enhancement of their musical experience. Communication and collaboration with the students' instrumental teachers is encouraged

Planning

Careful thought is given to the placing of each student. Detailed records are kept of each player's progress and repertoire. Ensemble music is sent out to Junior, Intermediate and Senior students approximately three weeks in advance for practice and study before the course starts.
